The Winnebago County (Wis.) Sheriff's Office will covert eight agency patrol cars from gasoline- to propane-powered vehicles and build a propane fueling station to reduce fuel costs.

The county's Board of Supervisors has approved $52,000 for the purchase and installation of the conversion kits, and another $10,000 to build a propane filling station on the grounds of the highway department, reports The Northwestern.

Sheriff John Matz has proposed $268,110 for his agency's fuel budget in 2014, a 6.33% decrease from the $286,235 approved for fuel in the 2013 budget.
