Venice, Fla., elected leaders are considering equipping city garbage trucks with mechanical arms to take the burden off drivers who now load each trash can by hand.

A Tampa-based consulting firm has recommended that the city purchase the automated truck attachments and wheeled garbage carts for nearly 9,000 households at a cost of $525,000, reports the Herald-Tribune.

In the past five years, Venice sanitation workers had 29 accidents on the job, which resulted in $21,132 in workers' compensation claims.
