A number of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) employees received the agency’s IdeaLink Award, which is a PennDOT system designed to allow employees to share ideas that improve operations and workplace safety.

One award-winning idea was submitted by Rodney Young, who suggested warehousing engine oil filters at PennDOT's Fleet Management Division rather than purchasing them from separate contracts. This idea will save $17,800 annually, according to PennDOT.

Another employee, Dennis Deiley in PennDOT's Bureau of Driver Licensing, suggested scanning and emailing fuel-card receipts to enable electronic filing for faster document processing and increased accountability. An anonymous employee also submitted an idea to install E-ZPass transponders in state-issued vehicles which will save the department an estimated 25 percent of the normal cash fees.
