The City of Zachary, La., has adopted a four-day work week at its Administrative Offices at City Hall and at the City’s Public Work and Utility Offices at the City Hall Annex. The new hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 am to 5:30 pm. The City states that a number of factors, including allowing earlier and later access to City services for citizens, plus cost savings, influenced the decision.

The statement from the City cites a number of costs related to the City’s fleet that will fall as a result of this shift, including fuel consumption by City-owned vehicles and equipment, plus maintenance costs.

The statement also noted that it will reduce the personal liability related to the use of City-owned vehicles and equipment by City employees by one day each week.

The City’s Mayor David Amrhein noted that emergency operations and after action response capabilities will remain the same.
