The 2012 LA Auto Show's Design Challenge, now in its 9th year, was themed Law Enforcement in 2025. Six design studios designed highway patrol vehicles to meet "the challenges of a specific region’s transportation and societal conditions in 2025.” Entries were judged by Tom Matano, School of Industrial Design at San Francisco's Academy of Art University; Imre Molnar, Detroit College of Creative Studies; Stewart Reed, Pasadena Art Center College of Design; and Bruce Meyer, California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation. From Aug. 26 through Aug. 29, public works professionals gathered at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. for the 75^th annual International Public Works Congress & Exposition, hosted by the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Attendees were given the opportunity to get acquainted with the latest innovations through educational seminars on technology, applications, leadership, sustainability, and infrastructure management. Industry vendors showed off their products on the show floor.
