Ind. County Adopts Lease-Purchase Program for Sheriff’s Vehicles

February 21, 2018

The Lake County (Ind.) Board of Commissioners will begin leasing its sheriff’s vehicles, a model that it hopes to apply to all vehicles in the county fleet in the future.

The board began soliciting bids for lease-to-own agreements for about 24 vehicles for its Sheriff’s Department, reported the Chicago Tribune. The first round of new vehicles would be part of a five-year asset management program, with a goal of replacing roughly 20 vehicles per year.

In late 2017, the county considered centralizing all fleet maintenance, including sheriff’s vehicles, in one garage. County officials reversed that decision shortly after, allowing the Sheriff’s Department to continue managing its own fleet.
