LaPorte County Council (Ind.) approved a 3% pay raise for county employees, with fleet at the center of the debate, reports the Herald Argus. The county sheriff and emergency medical services administrator highlighted the achievements of four garage mechanics that keep the county’s 140-vehicle fleet running.

A study commissioned by the council found the county’s mechanics were paid $18,000 below the average. The council agreed on a 3% raise across the board and plans to meet in January to determine whether to adjust wages for specific classifications.
