Jersey City, N.J., has moved to leasing SUVs for the first time for its police officers. Previously, SUVs were only reserved for supervisors, and the city had always purchased its police cars, the Jersey Journal reported.

The city will pay just under $1 million as part of its four-year leasing agreement for 24 Ford Police Interceptor SUVs. After the lease expires, the police department will determine whether to continue leasing over purchasing vehicles.
