N.J. City Seeks to Replace 3-Year-Old Sweepers

February 8, 2017

The City of Paterson, N.J., is seeking $1 million to purchase new street sweepers only three years after it spent $1.24 million on the last batch.

Three years ago, the city purchased seven street sweepers from RAVO, a manufacturer it had not worked with before. Public Works Director Manny Ojeda told city council members these sweepers are expensive to maintain and suffer from breakdowns, reports the Paterson Times.

The city sent out the sweepers for maintenance, and in one case last year, maintenance was halted during a payment dispute between the city and its vendor. Streets were not swept for weeks while the dispute was handled. With so many maintenance issues, public works has placed a few of its retired sweepers back into service.

If the purchase is approved, the latest batch of sweepers will still be used on smaller streets and parking lots.

As the representative of the manufacturer I would like to add that this story is a bit more complicated than mentioned here. If you read the Paterson Times article you can find further background regarding these sweepers. It is that simple that all sweepers need maintenance and when this is not done machines will breakdown. When properly maintained RAVO sweepers achieve up times of over 95% as is the case in the City of Berlin in Germany which has 42 RAVO's in service. However, as RAVO we are committed to our products and stand behind them and therefore we will take all the machines back to our workshop, give them a complete overhaul, train all the operators again and get all machines back on the road so they can do what they do all over the world: Sweep. When you buy a RAVO sweeper, you don't only buy a sweeper but the complete manufacturer support that comes with it. I would be happy to answer any questions, feel free to mail me: [email protected]
