The Carson City (Nev.) Sheriff's Office is making its K9 Unit vehicles safer thanks to donations from the community. One of the unit's vehicles has been upfitted with a Havis K9 insert, designed to reduce impact in the case of an accident, alert the driver of overheating, and help the dog get in and out of the vehicle more easily, reports Nevada Appeal.

The inserts are designed for the specific vehicle, making it a large investment. To raise the money needed, the K9 Unit is selling t-shirts and collecting community donations for the purchase.
