City of Nogales, Ariz., staff is looking into whether it can reduce the number of take-home vehicles — many of which are being used by employees that live outside city limits, reports Nogales International.

City policy now allows take-home vehicles for on-call employees who need to be available for emergencies. It also states that employees who live further than 10 miles from city limits will not be assigned vehicles, though employees who have already been assigned vehicles can continue using them.

A majority of the 62 employees assigned a take-home vehicle live outside city limits, and at least one lives in a neighboring county.

Over the years, the city has added a number of amendments to its vehicle policy. In 2009, the then-mayor had his Chevrolet Tahoe taken away after logging more than 50,000 miles in 16 months.
