VIDEO: Knowledge Sharing Series: Ventura County, Calif.

In Government Fleet's Knowledge Sharing video series, Pete Bednar, fleet operations manager for Ventura County, Calif., talks about searching for technicians who must now maintain more complicated vehicles, how the fleet manager wears multiple hats, and caving in to political pressure regarding green fleet adoption.

Bednar has been in fleet for 35 years and started out in the parts room.  Some accomplishments he is proud of include transforming fleets into high performance organizations; reducing costs without sacrificing safety, durability, or reliability; and being named among the 100 Best Fleets.

Bednar joined county fleet in 2014. The fleet is a full service shop that performs maintenance work, body and paint work, upfitting, welding and fabricating, complete fuel services, and mobile repairs. The fleet department consists of 46 team members and manages about 1,400 vehicles.
