Muscatine County, Iowa, may hire its first fleet manager after the Board of Supervisors gave the county engineer permission to investigate the hire. The fleet manager would oversee maintenance and operation of the Engineer’s Office & Secondary Road Department equipment, as well as purchasing, the Muscatine Journal reported.

Hiring a fleet manager would be a "change of direction," and a dedicated fleet manager could save the county money, the county engineer told the Board of Supervisors.

The department is responsible for the safety and quality of more than 600 miles of roads and more than 100 bridges, according to its website.
