A study of the City of East Peoria, Ill., garbage collection costs showed the city can continue providing the service for $68,000 per year less than a private vendor’s proposal, the Journal Star reported.

The commissioner overseeing Public Works recommended the service should stay in-house.

The city purchased three new garbage trucks this summer after three of its four trucks broke down. Officials hope the more efficient trucks will allow the city to save more.
