Ontario County, N.Y. is outsourcing fleet maintenance for most of its vehicles beginning July 20 to save close to $100,000 per year and improve quality and service, the Finger Lakes Times reported.

The county Board of Supervisors approved a maintenance contract with Qualtech Automotive in June.

The contract covers about 185 vehicles from the sheriff’s department and the highway department. Maintenance of large trucks will still be done at the county garage. Two technicians will remain, and two vacant positions will not be filled.

Commissioners who voted for the outsourcing contract said benefits include a quicker turnaround time, lower costs, and Saturday service.
