Jefferson Parish, La., is considering outsourcing fleet management functions, following an accounting analysis that revealed "bloated costs" in the department, reports The Times-Picayune.

The report showed that oil changes in the Fleet Management Department have cost taxpayers more than $100 per vehicle. The parish may outsouce parts of the department and possibly shift to leasing vehicles and its heavy equipment.

The parish administration is also considering hiring consultant Mercury Associates to develop more specific recommendations. Other council members said a staffing shortage is hurting the fleet department.
