Robert Martinez, deputy commissioner of the New York City Police Department, received the 2015 Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award today at the Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX).
Martinez was also chosen by the industry among the Public Fleet Hall of Fame inductees — this year’s eight inductees and last year’s inaugural group of 10 inductees. The award is sponsored by the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA).
Martinez has 29 years of fleet experience. He started his career as an auto service worker in 1986 and was promoted seven times to his current position. He oversees the maintenance of 11,291 vehicles, 8,300 of which are for the NYPD. Under his direction, the police fleet led the way in LED lighting, green fleet implementation, a high school program, two World Trade Center events, and Superstorm Sandy.
The NYPD fleet received a Leading Fleets award in 2014 and numerous other operational awards. Martinez received a NAFA Flexy award for Leadership as well as a NAFA Larry Goill award.
