IronPlanet and Associated Auction Services LLC (CAT Auction Services) announced the completion of the merger of the two companies.

IronPlanet is an online marketplace for used heavy equipment and trucks, and is the owner of GovPlanet and contractor for the Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency. Associated Auction Services is an alliance of Caterpillar and several of its independent CAT dealers, that operates under the name CAT Auction Services.

The merger will give IronPlanet access to the broadest choice of late-model, low-hour CAT equipment, and will draw a larger buying audience for all equipment on sale in its marketplace, said Gregory Owens, IronPlanet's chairman and CEO. It also allows IronPlanet to add onsite auction capabilities.

IronPlanet has more than 1.3 million registered users from around the world. During its 15-year history, IronPlanet has grown from a used heavy equipment online auction site to a platform of six marketplaces including IronPlanet, TruckPlanet, GovPlanet, allEquip, Kruse Energy & Equipment Auctioneers, and now CAT Auction Services.
