Sullivan County (Tenn.) Sheriff Wayne Anderson hopes to lease 45 new cruisers to replace aging vehicles that have peeling paint, rattling engines, and in some cases odometer readings above 200,000 miles.

Most of the agency's fleet of 150 vehicles needs replacing, Sheriff Anderson told WJHL. The sheriff said maintenance costs are now "out of this world."

The new leased vehicles would cost the city about $325,000 each year and carry a four-year term. The leases must be approved by county commissioners.
