The Casper (Wy.) City Council is reviewing its sole-sourced purchase of two pieces of equipment after a vendor asked why he wasn’t given an opportunity to bid, according to the Casper Star Tribune.

The city purchased a Caterpillar front-end wheel loader and compactor for landfill use. A vendor selling John Deere equipment said his loader was cheaper and equally capable, and he and other dealers should have been able to bid for the loader.

The city's Solid Waste manager said Caterpillar is the only manufacturer that holds up in landfill use, and the department has been sole-sourcing equipment from the company since the 1960s, the newspaper reported.
