The City of New Haven, Conn., has placed nine new snow plows into service in preparation for heavy snowfall that's also part of a broader plan to upgrade the city's aging fleet of the vehicles.

The city will deploy the new plows with greater snow accumulation, New Haven's Chief of Operations Jeff Pescosolido told NBC Connecticut. After a February 2013, nine plows were out of service and a salt shortage resulted in public complaints about slower clearing of roads.

Eventually, the city will replace the entire fleet of 18 plows, reports WTNH.
