The LAPD has begun reviewing the use of its helicopters for charitable and community events, after a sergeant scheduled a flyover at a school where his child was a student.

The helicopter and its four-man crew participated in a PTA fund-raiser at Palm Crest Elementary School in La Canada Flintridge on Oct. 27. The officers dropped golf balls onto a nearby course as part of a raffle.

An LAPD spokesman acknowledged the event may not have been the best use of the resource, saying "it doesn't sound like something we should be doing," Commander Andrew Smith told the Los Angeles Times.
