Sam Lamerato, CPFP, fleet superintendent for the City of Troy, Mich., received the 2014 Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award today at the Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX).

Lamerato was also chosen by the industry among the 10 inaugural Public Fleet Hall of Fame inductees and is the first person to receive this annual award, sponsored by the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA).

Lamerato offered a few secrets of his success, while accepting the Public Fleet Hall of Fame honor.

"Stay professional and ethical," Lamerato said. "And even though it may be difficult at times, always speak positively about the place that employs you."

Lamerato has 39 years of fleet experience. He has organized the American Public Works Association’s Michigan Chapter conferences for 17 years. The Troy fleet was named the No. 1 fleet in 2010, and Lamerato was Government Fleet’s Public Fleet Manager of the Year in 2011 and APWA’s Professional Manager of the Year in 2010. Lamerato served on Chrysler’s Fleet Advisory Council for two years and its Police Advisory Board for four years.
