The Saginaw County (Mich.) Sheriff's Department has acquired a military surplus truck for some of the toughest situations deputies may encounter.

Sheriff William Federspiel has taken delivery of a Mine Resistant Ambush Proof (MRAP) vehicle once used by the U.S. Army. Law enforcement agencies can acquire such equipment via the Department of Defense's Defense Logistics Agency as so-called Section 1033 equipment.

The vehicle could be used if officers confront an armored gunman with high-powered weapons, Sheriff Federspiel told MLive.com.
