The Ann Arbor, Mich., City Council authorized more than $450,000 for the purchase of 18 Ford vehicles mostly for the city's police department.

The Ann Arbor Police Department will purchase nine Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, four P.I. sedans, and two P.I. Utility vehicles for use as K-9 units. The city will also purchase a four-wheel-drive F-150 pickup, rear-wheel-drive F-150, and four-wheel-drive Escape.

The police vehilces are replacing vehicles that have reached wither 80,000 miles or a six-year limit set in the city's labor contracts, reports the Ann Arbor Chronicle.
