Several North Carolina cities including the City of Raleigh will begin leasing police motorcycles through Sparta Commercial Services as a cost-saving measure, the company announced Tuesday.

Under the deal, Raleigh police motor officers will be issued new BMW motorcycles under a replacement initiative. Raleigh-based Capitol BMW will provide the vehicles under the program.

Sparta's Municipal Leasing Program provides governmental agencies "with a more economical method for needed vehicles and other equipment than traditional up-front purchasing," according to the company.

Sparta provides leasing services to 10 other North Carolina agencies including Charlotte and Greenville. The City of Holden Beach has signed up to acquire a Dodge Charger Pursuit from Ilderton Chrysler Jeep Dodge in High Point.
