City of Sacramento Named No. 1 Government Green Fleet

October 3, 2013

The City of Sacramento, Calif., was named the No. 1 Government Green Fleet at the Green Fleet Conference in Phoenix on Oct. 2. Keith Leech, fleet manager for the City, accepted the award at the conference.

During his acceptance speech, Leech said a recent green fleet accomplishment at the City is the use of renewable compressed natural gas. “We now fuel our trucks with renewable fuels made from restaurant waste — hence the term farm to fork to fuel,” Leech said. “We’re pretty proud of that.”

He added that in its renewed contract for liquefied natural gas, used to fuel the City’s refuse trucks, the fuel supplier has agreed to supply 100% renewable liquefied natural gas at no extra cost.

The City of Sacramento was named the No. 2 Government Green Fleet in 2012.

The annual award is judged based on seven categories: fleet composition, fuel and emissions, policy and planning, fleet utilization, education, executive and employee involvement, and supporting programs. The award was created by Tom Johnson. This year's judges were Rhea Courtney Bozic of Clean Fuels Consulting; Paul Condran from the City of Culver City, Calif.; and Steve Riley from the City of Coral Gables, Fla.

The 2013 Government Green Fleet award recipients pose with judges and sponsors at the Green Fleet Conference in Phoenix on Oct. 2.

Congratulations to all. I was privileged to visit with the City of Santa Ana's Fleet Manager Rick Longobart yesterday. They are really focused on clean sustainable energy sources. It is a beautiful facility and they are encouraging outside fleets to consider using American made cheaper cleaner natural gas to fuel their fleets. Save money Create jobs Stay healthy
