Alabama’s Governor Robert J. Bentley signed an executive order in March that establishes an Office of Fleet Management, and a fleet manager position, within the Alabama Department of Transportation. According to the governor’s office, the fleet manager will work with Alabama State agencies to assess the State’s current vehicle fleet and then develop a statewide program to ensure those vehicles are managed efficiently, with a focus on fuel efficiency and maintenance. The program’s goal is to achieve the lowest possible cost-per-mile driven, according to the statement from the governor’s office.

“The Department of Transportation has done an excellent job in fleet management, and we are choosing ALDOT to oversee management of the entire state’s fleet program,” Governor Bentley said. “The fleet manager will work closely with all agencies to make this transition as efficient and seamless as possible.”
