Texas lawmakers are considering an increased registration fee for owners of electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf, according to the Texas Tribune. The idea behind the fee is that EV drivers don’t pay the gas tax used to support road infrastructure.

Electric vehicle drivers in the State of Washington will soon have to pay an annual $100 for road and highway improvements, and the State of Virginia is considering a similar fee, the newspaper reports.
