CHARLESTOWN, W. VA – West Virginia’s Department of Administration (DAS) has hired Kenneth Yoakum as its new executive director of the State’s fleet management office, effective Oct. 29. According to the State, Yoakum’s most recent position was with Mountaineer Gas, where he oversaw and managed the company’s fleet of vehicles at 18 locations throughout West Va. Yoakum replaces Clay Chandler, who left the position in August.

DAS stated that Yoakum’s experience also includes 15 years in public utility administration, where he negotiated contracts and agreements, provided customer service, and created marketing strategies. Yoakum has a bachelor’s degree in business management from West Virginia State University.

DAS said Yokum’s role will involve overseeing all aspects of the State’s consolidated fleet operation. The State fleet Yoakum will oversee consists of roughly 6,500 passenger vehicles.

“Since the passage of legislation in 2010, which consolidated the state’s fleet, the Department of Administration has focused on continued enhancements to our processes and procedures. Kenny will be instrumental in keeping that momentum moving forward by developing policies to ensure the necessary internal controls and cost-efficiencies,” said Acting Cabinet Secretary Ross Taylor. “With his extensive knowledge and experience in the management of fleet vehicles along with his negotiation skills, he will bring the tools and resources to our state government that will produce positive changes in this program. Kenny’s leadership skills and understanding of fleet management operations will certainly benefit the state of West Virginia.”
