WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Purdue University Transportation Service has selected a new fleet management system for the 160 vehicles it operates in and around its West Lafayette, Ind., campus. The university selected Agile Access Control, Inc.’s FleetCommander system to manage motor pool and assigned vehicles.

Carol Cox, transportation service director for the university, stated that the entire university’s population has access to rental vehicles and that it annually logs more than 12,000 trips. Before selecting the new system, the university’s staff handled fleet reservations manually via email, phone, faxes, and a scheduling board. Half of the Transportation Service vehicles are in the Purdue motor pool, the other half are assigned, with the university rotating the assigned vehicles to address mileage.

“We're fortunate to be moving from a paper-based operation to an electronic system that will provide historical data, and improve our efficiency and customer service,” Cox stated.

FleetCommander is currently used by a number of universities and colleges such as Cornell University, Villanova, American University, Virginia Tech, Ball State, Cedarville University, among others.
