Chrysler Adds AWD to Charger Pursuit, Ford Adds 3.7L V-6 to Police Interceptor

AUBURN HILLS and DEARBORN, MI - Chrysler is adding an all-wheel-drive system to the Charger equipped with the automaker’s 5.7L HEMI V-8. Ford is adding a 3.7L V-6 engine option to its Police Interceptor sedan. Chrysler stated it is testing the AWD system. Ford said its new V-6 engine option for the Police Interceptor is now available.

AUBURN HILLS and DEARBORN, MI – Chrysler and Ford announced updates to their law enforcement pursuit vehicles, the Dodge Charger Pursuit and the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan. Chrysler is adding an all-wheel-drive system to the Charger equipped with the automaker’s 5.7L HEMI V-8. Ford is adding a 3.7L V-6 engine option to its PI sedan.

According to Chrysler, the AWD system on the Charger features an active transfer case and a front-axle-disconnect system that better balances performance and fuel economy. The automaker stated its engineers are already testing the Charger Pursuit with the AWD system, and that the vehicle will meet the police pursuit durability cycle for RWD models.

Chrysler stated it will offer the AWD feature on the Charger Pursuit for the 2014 model-year.

For the Ford Police Interceptor, the new engine is a 3.7L V-6 with twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT). The 3.7L V-6 can deliver 305 hp and 279 lb.-ft. of torque while also getting fuel economy of 25 highway, 18 city, 21 combined mpg. This new engine option for the sedan was already available on the Police Interceptor Utility. The new 3.7L V-6 engine option is currently available, according to Ford.

Ford's Police Interceptor sedan lineup now offers three powertrain options, a standard 3.5L V-6, the new 3.7L V-6, and the 3.5L V-6 EcoBoost engine.
