EL PASO, TX – Former City of El Paso fleet maintenance chief Lorenzo Avalos was indicted earlier this month by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and the deprivation of honest services, according to El Paso Times.

Federal prosecutors allege that Avalos and another fleet employee accepted bribes and kickbacks from a parts vendor that sold the city used or refurbished parts for garbage trucks while excessively charging for new parts. The arrangement was discovered during a 2008 internal audit, the newspaper reported.
