YONKERS, NY – As part of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano’s Comprehensive Asset Reduction Schedule (CARS), which evaluates city resources and expenses in order to reduce city spending, the City launched an eBay store, YonkersCARStore.com. The site sells excess City assets, including vehicles, and opening earnings for the first 10 days of bidding at the store have exceeded $44,000, according to a release from the City.

“This program is a simple way of turning years of excessive spending into significant savings for taxpayers,” said Mayor Spano. “In addition to the revenue generated for Yonkers, the accessibility of selling surplus city-owned assets online provides an opportunity for residents to take part in our city’s fiscal health, while getting a great deal on a great item.”

Mayor Spano launched the Yonkers CARStore June 27 with more than two dozen items, including cameras, computers and traffic signal heads, as well as 10 vehicles, one of which was a Lincoln Navigator that sold for more than $25,000. All the cars featured in the auction were from the recent recall of over 40 take-home cars by Mayor Spano earlier this year. Automobile bids began at $500.

The Mayor also announced several new items will be listed at YonkersCARStore.com, including a 1990 Mack Fire Truck, a 1998 Ford Van, and a vintage Schwab Co. Bank Safe. Starting bids for items listed now range from $25 to $5,500. The City expects to auction off more than 200 items over the next few months.

YonkersCARStore is specifically configured to be compatible with all smartphones.
