SUGAR LAND, TX – The City of Sugar Land has released a plan to retrofit a number of City vehicles so they can run on compressed natural gas (CNG). The City plans to convert 99 non-public safety vehicles first and heavy equipment later using a phased approach. The City also plans to supplement its CNG fleet with hybrids used for general administrative tasks.

Sugar Land’s fuel cost analysis forecasts $1.5 million in savings by comparing costs of $1 - $2.25 per GGE for CNG to $4.80 to $5.50 per gallon on gasoline over a 20-year period. The City stated it expects to use grants and money in its fleet replacement fund to get the project up and running.
