May 17, 2012

TORRANCE, CA – The Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year, sponsored by the Government Fleet Management Alliance (GFMA) and Fleet Counselor Services (FCS), is an annual award that recognizes excellence in fleet management. The winner will be announced at the Government Fleet Expo & Conference (GFX) in Denver on June 20.

The three finalists for the 2012 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year are:

  • Larry Campbell, CPFP, fleet management director, City of Fort Wayne, Ind.
  • Dave Head, fleet manager, Sonoma County, Calif.
  • Kevin Schlangen, CPFP, fleet manager, Dakota County, Minn.

The truck is in service, and the fleet is currently seeing a fuel savings of 43 percent over the same make, model, and type of equipment doing the same work.

Head led an initiative to develop charging station installation guidelines at Sonoma County. In June 2011, he and a group published the “County of Sonoma Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program and Installation Guidelines." It included a program overview for the EV charger and vehicle deployment, definitions of industry terms, guidelines for the installation of fully compliant EV charging stations, and a marketing and outreach plan for development of eco-tourism and EV use in the County. The Board of Supervisors adopted the guidelines in August 2011.

Schlangen is a member of the Drive Electric Minnesota Coalition that promotes electric vehicles and plug-in infrastructure, receiving commendation from Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton.
