TORRANCE, CA - Government Fleet announced the three finalists for the 2012 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year award. The winner will be announced at GFX in Denver.

TORRANCE, CA – The Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year, sponsored by the Government Fleet Management Alliance (GFMA) and Fleet Counselor Services (FCS), is an annual award that recognizes excellence in fleet management.The winner will be announced at the Government Fleet Expo & Conference (GFX) in Denver on June 20.

The three finalists for the 2012 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year are:

  • Larry Campbell, CPFP, fleet management director, City of Fort Wayne, Ind.

  • Dave Head, fleet manager, Sonoma County, Calif.

  • Kevin Schlangen, CPFP, fleet manager, Dakota County, Minn.

Campbell

In 2011, Campbell, working with International, Eaton, and Sewer Equipment of America, helped complete the development of a Class 6 hybrid sewer jet truck, the first of its kind. The truck is in service, and the fleet is currently seeing a fuel savings of 43 percent over the same make, model, and type of equipment doing the same work.

Head

Head led an initiative to develop charging station installation guidelines at Sonoma County. In June 2011, he and a group published the “County of Sonoma Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program and Installation Guidelines." It included a program overview for the EV charger and vehicle deployment, definitions of industry terms, guidelines for the installation of fully compliant EV charging stations, and a marketing and outreach plan for development of eco-tourism and EV use in the County. The Board of Supervisors adopted the guidelines in August 2011.

Schlangen

Schlangen is a member of the Drive Electric Minnesota Coalition that promotes electric vehicles and plug-in infrastructure, receiving commendation from Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton. Schlangen also secured $69,500 in revenue by insourcing repairs from a city police fleet and community development agency fleet. In addition, he helped the fleet attain grant dollars for vehicle replacement.

  • Paul Hinderaker, director of fleet services, City of Ames, Iowa

  • Rick Longobart, facilities, fleet, and stores manager, City of Santa Ana, Calif.

  • Gary Lykins, fleet maintenance director, Town of Jonesborough, Tenn.

  • Michael Quattrone, asst. director of operations, Equipment Services, CPFO, City of Rochester, N.Y.

  • Robert Martinez, exec. director, Support Services, New York City Police Dept.

  • Steven Riley, automotive director, City of Coral Gables, Fla.

  • Dave Schiller, CAFM, fleet, safety & materials manager, Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources

  • Joe Simoncini, fleet director, Westchester County, N.Y.

  • Gary West, director of transportation, Genesee Intermediate School District (G.I.S.D), Mich.
