COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – A City of Colorado Springs fleet parts specialist helped the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) catch and arrest three men in the midst of steeling copper wire from light poles, earning recognition from the City and local news agencies.

Fleet parts specialist Christine Keller filling in that morning as the fuel delivery truck driver, according to a release from the City. She was on her way to refuel units at the fleet facility when she noticed some suspicious activity on the side of the road.  As she got closer, she realized three men were stealing copper wire from the street light poles. She pulled over to call the police and stayed on the phone assisting officers with information until they could arrive on the scene and ultimately arrest the suspects.

“Christine was observant enough to notice something suspicious when others may have driven right by,” said Fleet Parts Supervisor Rob Ramsey. “We’re proud of her for helping CSPD make the arrest.”

Copper wire theft has cost the City $1 million in labor, material, and equipment over the last three years, according to the release.
