SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Department of Fish and Game is petitioning to keep 123 of the 527 department fleet vehicles slated for reduction, according to the Sacramento Bee. Many of the department's vehicles are special equipment, and conservation groups are concerned about the fleet reduction's effects on the state's wildlife and habitats. The department is using an appeal process in an attempt to retain the vehicles.

Governor Jerry Brown announced the state Fleet Reduction Plan in January. As of July, Governor Brown reported the state had cut 3,800 vehicles from the 50,000-vehicle fleet.
