Bergen County Cuts Fleet by 123 Vehicles

HACKENSACK, NJ – Bergen County has focused on cutting costs in its vehicle fleet. County Executive Kathleen A. Donovan said the County has auctioned 123 take-home vehicles and reduced its fleet’s fuel use by 22,000 gallons, which saved approximately $66,000. The reduction in the number of vehicles in the fleet will also cut insurance costs by $37,000. This reduction follows

The County also installed GPS units in 100 of its vehicles to track them, reduce fuel consumption, and improve maintenance.

“One of the very first things we looked at when I took office was an evaluation of the County’s fleet of vehicles,” said Donovan. “The substantial savings we are seeing in our insurance costs are only the beginning of the savings for our taxpayers. The installation of GPS in County vehicles will show further savings in gas consumption, maintenance costs, and productivity.”
