CYPRESS, CA - Southern California's City of Cypress recently added two ROUSH CleanTech Ford F-250 pickups fueled by propane autogas for use in administering community street work such as asphalt repairs and refuse pick-up. The vehicles were purchased through a local Ford dealership after city officials learned about the benefits of propane autogas at an Air Quality Management District (AQMD) seminar.

"The City of Cypress is always looking for opportunities to put green vehicles in our fleet, and it's important to move toward greener fleets when possible," said Doug Dancs, the City's director of Public Works. "Plus, the choice for propane was an easy one since we have had a propane fueling station in place since the early 1980s."

With the existing fueling infrastructure in place and funding through the AQMD, the City of Cypress purchased the ROUSH CleanTech Ford trucks for its department of Public Works. These trucks emit 20 percent less nitrogen oxide and up to 60 percent less carbon monoxide than gasoline-powered vehicles. About 90 percent of U.S. propane supplies are domestically produced. Historically, propane autogas costs 30 to 40 percent less than gasoline and offers reduced operating and maintenance costs due to its clean-burning properties.

"We're so excited to work with City of Cypress on their roll out of these propane autogas trucks. Many city and county agencies throughout California are realizing that propane autogas vehicles provide a compelling business and environmental case to make the switch to this alternative fuel," said Todd Mouw, vice president of sales and marketing for ROUSH CleanTech. "With no compromise in vehicle performance, ROUSH CleanTech Ford trucks and vans fueled by propane autogas help solve California's dire air quality issues by reducing greenhouse gas up to 24 percent."

The City of Cypress worked with Phil Englander, commercial accounts/VIP sales department of Galpin Motors, North Hills, Calif., for the purchase. "I really feel propane autogas is a smart choice for municipalities and government agencies when going to a green alternative fuel. It offers a stable solution that is a readily available and cost-effective solution to fuel needs," said Englander. "In addition, ROUSH CleanTech has built a purpose-driven infrastructure that has proven reliable to my clients."
