LAWRENCE, KS - The City of Lawrence instituted bulk purchasing, uses GPS, and instituted an anti-idling policy in 2009 to reduce fuel use but rising prices still mean the City is facing an additional $100,000 in fuel costs due, according to LJworld.com.
Out of the fleet of 573 vehicles, patrol cars used by the police department have shown the most improvement due to officers changing their driving habits. City fire trucks even have solar panels on them to reduce the need to idle during non-emergency situations.
