CARROLLTON, GA - With gas prices rising to $3.50 per gallon for unleaded, the Carroll County (Ga.) Sheriff's Office is saving about $105,000 a year by using propane-fueled vehicles, reports the Times-Georgian.

The department now has 36 patrol cars in its fleet that act as hybrid propane vehicles. For the conversion, a separate propane fuel system is added that allows the vehicles to switch between propane fuel and traditional gasoline.

The vehicle starts on gas and then switches to propane that is about $1.34 cheaper than the gasoline the department purchases.
