FRANKFORT, KY - Ohio County, Ky., recently changed its police car policy, purchasing all the sheriff's patrol vehicles from the deputies who owned them. The County will now pay all fleet costs, according to WFIE.

In the past, deputies had to buy their own vehicles when joining the department, but they received a flat rate of $1,300 monthly for maintenance and gas.

The department bought back 12 cruisers from deputies. Sheriff David Thompson said he hopes this will mean in better vehicle maintenance and the ability to purchase new vehicles for replacement rather than used vehicles. He estimated the County could save at least $100,000 annually from this change, according to the news source.
