DETROIT - The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Patrol Vehicle is now equipped with StabiliTrak, the company’s electronic stability control technology for enhanced safety during high-risk driving situations, according to General Motors.

Using three key sensors, StabiliTrak works by comparing the driver’s intentions (indicated by steering wheel position) with how the vehicle is responding.  It then selectively applies the individual brakes needed to help keep the car on the intended course and keep the officer safe.

Chevrolet is now the only manufacturer to offer a full range of police vehicles that come standard with this safety and performance technology, according to the company.

Barry Walkup, development engineer and vehicle dynamics, explains the technology in the video below.
