ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester, N.Y., Housing Authority will auction off a third of its 65-vehicle fleet and has imposed stricter ethics policies and new whistleblower protections as part of a house-cleaning effort within the authority, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
In addition to ethics changes, the board approved shedding 25 vehicles and selling hundreds of surplus items in inventory at an auction scheduled for Oct. 2. The fleet reduction is projected to save the authority $49,600 a year, according to the news source.
Vehicles to be auctioned include Chevrolet, Ford, and Dodge vans, pickups and sedans between five and 12 years old.
Commissioners also agreed to no longer allow employees take-home vehicles.
The authority has auctioned off vehicles before, but never on so grand a scale, according to the newspaper.
