CHICAGO - GPS tracking systems in Chicago city vehicles, installed to improve employee accountability and speed deployment of limited resources, were recently used to track down a stolen city truck taken for a joyride, reported the Chicago Sun-Times.

A truck being used by a night investigator for the city's Department of Water Management was stolen early Saturday morning from the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, where he and his crew had stopped for a meal.

Using the GPS tracking system, the truck was recovered a few hours later. The truck had been driven for about an hour, and there were no alterations to the truck and nothing was stolen, according to the newspaper.
