MIDLAND, TEXAS - A proposed property tax hike in the City of Midland, Texas, has some residents saying the city should find other ways to balance their budget. One of their suggestions is getting rid of city take-home cars, but Midland law enforcement says they're essential to protecting the community, reported NewsWest 9.

Opponents said take-home vehicles add unnecessary miles and maintenance to city vehicles. However, Midland Police said taking home  squad cars are a huge benefit to the city as police visibility is a crime deterrent and enables officers to respond quickly.

The City Council will approve their new budget on August 23rd, according to the news source.
