ANDERSON, SC - Most Anderson County employees would not be allowed to drive county cars home under an ordinance proposed by Council member Eddie Moore, according to the Anderson Independent Mail.

"With the exception of Anderson County Sheriff's Office personnel, no county employee may take a county-owned vehicle home at the end of the work day," the proposed ordinance states.

At a budget session two weeks ago, Council member Tom Allen said about 50 county employees drive county vehicles home. Council members slashed the number of employee-driven cars last summer and recently began pursuing more cuts of the county fleet.

All employees who drive county-owned vehicles were required to justify use of the car last summer. Deputy County Administrator Holt Hopkins said at the meeting two weeks ago he wants to cut the total fleet budget by 5 percent, reports the Anderson Independent Mail.
