LONG BEACH, CA - Leslie Horikawa-Thiede has been named Fleet Services Bureau manager for the City of Long Beach, Calif., replacing Carlos Velasquez.

Velasquez, a 2009 nominee for Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year, previously served as superintendent of maintenance for the City before taking over as acting fleet manager. He will now serve as superintendent in the Environmental Services Bureau, in charge of the City's refuse collection services and directing a staff of 120 employees. The trash trucks are maintained and serviced by the city's Fleet Services Bureau.

The Long Beach Fleet Services Bureau, ranked No. 18 on the 2009 100 Best Fleets listing and named No. 1 Government Green Fleet in North America in 2008, provides vehicle and equipment acquisitions, preventative maintenance, and unscheduled repair and fueling services to city departments.
