WASHOE COUNTY, NV - Twenty unmarked vehicles have been approved by Washoe County commissioners for leasing rather than purchasing for the sheriff's detectives, according to www.RGJ.com.

The County will lease 20 relatively new, fuel-efficient sedans and sport utility vehicles for two years for $213,702 from Enterprise Fleet Services of Las Vegas.

The contract will include regular maintenance and all repairs except tires, brake pads and abnormal repairs, such as a cracked windshield. The deal also includes exchanging cars with the leasing company if criminals begin to identify the vehicles on stakeouts.

Over eight years, the county finance department estimates leasing costs $110,000 more than buying and maintaining the cars. In the two-year trial, the county will monitor 10 similar county vehicles used by sheriff's detectives for comparison.
